About the book
This book was not planned. It was built, slowly, out of the hours I could not otherwise survive. Each poem began as a private attempt — to name something that would not answer to any other name, to hold something slipping through my hands. I did not set out to write a book. I set out to write one true line. And then another. And then one more. What I found, eventually, was that the pages had begun to gather themselves into something that looked, from a distance, like a journey — one I did not know I was walking until I turned around and saw the shape of it behind me. You will find here a lot of silence, and small words used carefully. If any poem meets you in the right hour, it was written for you too. I have tried to be honest, not impressive. — autumnmuse”
